Year 5, our last year in primary! Year 5 students (11 years or 10 turning 11) study six main inquiry units during the year and all topics are taught in a transdisciplinary way incorporating science and social studies and relevant skills and concepts. Students are encouraged to use questions to discover the how and why on a range of central ideas including 'personal well being', 'today's society and how past civilizations have influenced it' and 'the distribution of wealth and how it affects communities and individual's access to equal opportunities.' During the year, one of our units of inquiry is our Year 5 exhibition. Students and teachers mount a public exhibition based on a group and self-selected unit of inquiry which must be a real world issue including local and global aspects.
